When a container, such as a IBC container, is located on a sump pallet, any drips, leaks, or over flow of its contents can be caught within the pallet preventing discharge into the surrounding environment, such as drainage system, and hence reducing the pollution risk. A sump pallet can also help prevent leaking liquids from damaging the floors or surrounding area.

It is important to note that IBC container sump pallets should comply with legislation which states that sump pallets should have the capacity to hold 110% of the contents of any single IBC container or 25% of the contents of all the containers located on the sump pallet.

Steel IBC container sump pallets are therefore ideal when storing more corrosive chemicals where polyethylene may not be appropriate.
